John.17

John 16.
[32] The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and (      )2 will leave me alone; / yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me
[33] I have said this to you, that in me you2 may have peace. / In the world you have tribulation; / but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

this chapter is complicated and 'from the beginning' as in v 24's 'before the foundation of the world': these are controversial considerations and difficult



[25O righteous Father, the world has not known thee, but I have known thee2; / and these know that thou hast sent me

[26I made known to them thy name, and I2 will make it known, that the love with which thou hast loved me may be in them2, and I in them3.

[1] When Jesus had spoken these wordshe went forth with his disciples across the Kidron valley, where there was a garden, which he2 and his disciples2 entered.

Kidron (abarim):
The verb קדר (qadar) means to be or become dark, gloomy or dirty. Noun קדרות (qadrut) means darkness. Adverb קדר (qedorannit) describes mourners.

[2] Now Judas, (     ) who betrayed him2, also knew the place; / for Jesus often met there with his disciples.

The noun בן (ben) means son, or more general: a member of one particular social or economic node — called a "house", which is built upon the instructions of one אב ('ab), or "father" — within in a larger economy.  This noun obviously resembles the verb בנה (bana), to build, and the noun אבן ('eben), stone.

[12] So the band of soldiers and their captain and the officers of the Jews seized Jesus and (       ) bound him.

The Praetorium was the residence of the Roman prefect of Judea Province, who at this time was Pontius Pilate.


[29] So Pilate went out to them and (      ) said, "What accusation do you bring against this man?”

[30] They answered him, "If this man2 were not an evildoer, we would not have handed him2 over.”

[32] / and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." 
[33] He said this to show by what death he2 was to die.
